Event Title:
THE IMPACT OF THE GLOBAL FINANCIAL CRISIS ON SUBNATIONAL FINANCE
Date: 12/17/2008 - 12/17/2008
Washington D.C. – On December 17th, 2008 the World Bank Institute (WBI) presented the live videoconference event entitled The Impact of Global Financial Crisis on Subnational Finance. This event was the first in a new series entitled Global Dialogues as a Response to the Global Economic Crisis. Launched in November of 2008, this initiative was created in response to client requests for related education on the causes and consequences of the global financial crisis. The global dialogue series is geared specifically towards policymakers from client countries, with the goal of facilitating real time cross-country discussion covering the economic effects related to the current turbulence within financial markets, potential policy responses and additional dialogue regarding related issues.

Hosted in Washington D.C., the following global videoconference event focused on the crisis impact on state and local finance. Notably, participants from Brazil, China, India and Russia all contributed via satellite, with contributing remarks from Dr. Robert Ebel, Deputy Chief Financial Officer and Chief Economist, as well as Dr. George Peterson of the Urban Institute.
