MACROECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL POLICY RESPONSES TO THE GLOBAL ECONOMIC CRISIS - ARGENTINA, HUNGARY, PHILIPPINES, POLAND, RUSSIA, TURKEY
Date: 12/19/2008 - 12/19/2008
Washington D.C. – On December 19th, 2008 the World Bank Institute (WBI) presented the live videoconference event entitled Global Dialogue Series: The Macroeconomic and Financial Policy Response to the Global Economic Crisis. This event was the second in a new series entitled Global Dialogues as a Response to the Global Economic Crisis. Launched in November of 2008, this initiative was created in response to client requests for related education on the causes and consequences of the global financial crisis. The global dialogue series is geared specifically towards policymakers from client countries, with the goal of facilitating real time cross-country discussion covering the economic effects related to the current turbulence within financial markets, potential policy responses and additional dialogue regarding related issues.

Hosted in Washington D.C., the following global videoconference event focused on the impacts of the crisis and assessed the macroeconomic and financial policy responses required to address the crisis and to manage the growth and distribution effects. Ministers of finance, central bank governors, and financial regulators from Argentina, Uruguay, Turkey, Poland, Hungary, Russia, South Africa, Indonesia, Philippines, and South Korea participated. Speakers included Professor Guillermo Calvo of Columbia University, and Dr. Gerard Caprio of Williams College.
