Title:
MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS FIVE-YEARS REVIEW: UNIVERSAL EDUCATION AND GENDER EQUALITY |
| Date:
9/14/2005
- 9/14/2005 |
| The External Affairs, Africa Region (AFREX) of the World Bank and the World Bank Institute are leading an initiative around the Millennium Development Goals’ five-year review (MDGs+5), as an outreach to the various civil society groups including academia, youth, women, etc. in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The initiative, which is a series of six Cyber-dialogues and six video-conferences (three French and three English), began on September 6—the week before the Millennium Summit. It is providing a platform for discussions between a microcosm of students, parliamentarians, market women, civil servants, media, etc., to share their understanding of the MDGs. This process is meant to facilitate ownership and relevance of the MDGs to the various constituencies in the Africa region. An arrangement has been made to ensure that the reports from the cyber-dialogues and the VCs, which will be produced daily, are in the hands of the delegates and the UN accredited CSOs.
