Title:
TRAINING COURSE ON LOCAL KNOWLEDGE AND HEALTH PRACTICES FOR MULTI-COUNTRY AIDS PROJECT TEAMS AND NATIONAL AIDS COMMISSIONS. |
| Date:
2005-09-08
- 2005-09-09 |
The training course was organized by the Indigenous Knowledge Program of the Africa Region’s Knowledge and Learning Unit (AFTKL) in partnership with the World Bank Institute, with the participation of more than 170 practitioners in six countries: Ghana, Mozambique, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Sierra Leone.
The purpose of the two-day training course was to train National AIDS Commission staff and other stakeholders involved in combating HIV/AIDS in community-based response prevention programs across Africa, including voluntary counseling and testing, treatment, and care. The emphasis of the course was on demonstrating how the use of local knowledge and expertise has contributed to improving the effectiveness of HIV/AIDS programs on the ground. A number of participants developed concrete proposals to adapt the lessons learnt from the course into their work at the local, project and policy levels. |
