Event Title:
BBL ON PROJECT MANAGEMENT: ARE WE REALLY GETTING RID OF PIUS?
Date: 2/15/2006 - 2/15/2006
Project Implementation Units, or PIUs, are separate entities created by the World Bank to run development projects. Despite studies showing that project management should be placed in the hands of the partner country, they have managed to survive. Now the Bank’s Operational Policy and Country Services (OPCS) has called for the gradual elimination of PIUs with a recent policy note. In this brown-bag lunch, sponsored by the World Bank Institute’s Capacity Development unit on February 15, 2006, Bank staff discuss the role of these units, and the process of eliminating them from the development process.
