WHEN NATURE’S FORCES MEET DEGRADED ENVIRONMENTS

On April 14, 2009, the World Bank’s InfoShop and Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) departments featured a two-hour discussion with Nobel Peace Prize Recipient Wangari Maathai and Bruce Babbitt, Chairman of the Board for World Wildlife Fund. The event was hosted by Apurva Sanghi, Team Leader of the Joint World Bank-United Nations Assessment of Economics and Natural Disasters. As part the department’s annual speaking series, Maathai and Babbitt were invited to the Bank to discuss the future of environmental management of natural disasters.
