SAMUEL
FANKHAUSER is Acting Director for Policy Studies and
a Senior Economist in the Office of the Chief Economist
at the European
Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
His duties include the editorial responsibility for
the Transition
Report, the EBRD's annual flagship publication,
as well as the support of project teams on economic
issues, mostly in the field of energy and the environment.
Before
joining EBRD in 1999, Sam worked as an environmental
economist at the World Bank, where he was involved
in energy and climate change projects in the Middle
East, Europe and Central Asia, and as a consultant
to the Global Environment Facility (GEF). From 1992
to 1994 he was a Research Associate at the Centre
for Social and Economic Research on the Global Environment
(CSERGE) at University College London.
His
research interests include the economics of climate
change, and he served as a Lead Author in the Second
and Third Assessment Reports of the Intergovernmental
Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
A
Swiss national, Sam has studied economics at the University
of Berne (Switzerland) and the London School of Economics,
and holds a PhD from University College London.
