Richard Herring

An expert in international banking and finance, Professor Richard Herring is Director of The Joseph H. Lauder Institute of Management and International Studies of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He also serves as Co-Director of the Wharton Financial Institutions Center.

Before his current appointments, Professor Herring was Vice Dean and Director of the Wharton Undergraduate Division, Director of The Financial Institutions Center, and Director of Program in International Banking and Finance. Additionally, he held a visiting appointment at Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Germany.

Professor Herring is a well-recognized academic, exemplified by several notable teaching awards. He is also acknowledged for his leadership in the corporate and public sectors. His professional leadership is demonstrated by his editorial duties at several prominent industry-specific journals.

Dr. Herring has been widely published, some of his works include: "The Regulation of Position Risk in Banks, Securities Firms and Insurance Companies," in Risk Based Capital Regulation with T. Schuermann (forthcoming), "Bubbles in Real Estate Markets," in Asset Price Bubbles: Implications for Monetary, Regulatory and International Policies with S. Wachter (2003), and "Credit Risk and Financial Instability," in Ratings, Rating Agencies and the Global Financial System (2002).

Prior to joining the Wharton School in 1972, Professor Herring obtained his PhD and MA from Princeton University and BA from Oberlin College.
