Watanagase

Mrs.
Tarisa Watanagase (Ph.D in Economics,
Washington University, U.S.A.; B.A.
and M.A. in Economics, Keio University
Japan) is the Deputy Governor with
responsibilities in financial system
stability issues, including financial
sector policy and prudential regulation
formulation, supervision and examination
and in legal and litigation issues.
She also sits on the BOT Board, the
Financial System Policy Committee
and Monetary Policy Committee.
Dr.Tarisa
Watanagase joined the Bank of Thailand
in 1975 and had worked in the Research,
Banking, Supervision and Payment
System Departments. In the Payment
System area she spearheaded a modernization
program by putting in place the first
real-time-gross-settlement large
value fund transfer system in Asia,
introducing an electronic fund transfer
system for small payments and an
electronic check clearing system.
One
month after the crisis broke out
in July 1997, she was shifted back
to Financial System Policy. She was
instrumental in the resolution of
the financial sector crisis, implementation
of financial sector reform and upgrading
the supervisory capacity of the Bank
of Thailand.
