Hennie
van Greuning, a South African national, joined
the World Bank in 1994 from the South African
Reserve Bank where he served as Head of South
African Bank Supervision (199094) and
Controller (198689). He was actively involved
in monetary policy and financial market regulation
issues. Prior to that, he was a Partner with
Deloitte and Touche where he had spent ten years.
He joined the Bank as a Senior Financial Sector
Specialist in the Financial Sector Development
Department and moved to the Europe and Central
Asia region as Financial Sector Manager in 1997.
In July 2000 he joined the Banks Treasury
as an Advisor.
As
Financial Sector Manager, Hennie van Greuning
was responsible for inputs into financial sector
strategy, as well as technical guidance for
financial sector operations in the 27 member
countries in the Europe and Central Asia region.
In the Treasury he is concentrating on a variety
of risk-related and client advisory services
issues.
He
attended Stellenbosch University for undergraduate
studies and holds a Doctorate in Economics and
a Doctorate in Applied Accounting. He qualified
as a chartered accountant in both South Africa
and Canada. He has recently co-authored World
Bank publications on International Accounting
Standards as well as Banking Risk Analysis.
