Mr.
Ernesto Aguirre is currently the Program Manager
of the Banking and Financial Restructuring Program
of the Financial Sector Operations and Policy
Department at the World Bank. Previously, Mr.
Aguirre was the Superintendent of Banks of the
Republic of Colombia, an independent supervisory
agency in charge of the regulation and supervision
of banks, non-banking financial institutions,
pension funds, and insurance institutions in
the country. He also served as Chief International
Negotiator in the areas of economic and financial
matters of the Republic of Colombia and as Senior
Counsel of the Legal Department at the International
Monetary Fund where he was in charge of providing
technical assistance to more than 30 countries
on legal and regulatory aspects related to their
banking systems' organization, banking supervision
and regulation, and bank restructuring. Mr.
Aguirre received his Doctor in Law from the
University Externado de Colombia, D.E.A. in
Economic Law from Universite de Paris I Pantheon-Sorbonne,
and Master in Financial Law from the London
School of Economics. Mr. Aguirre is a Ph. D
candidate in Economics at the London School
of Economics.
