Presenter: Jonathan Fiechter

Jonathan Fiechter

Mr. Fiechter joined the Fund in June of 2003 to head up the Monetary and Financial Systems Department’s financial supervision and crisis management unit.

Previously, Mr. Fiechter served as Senior Deputy Comptroller of the Currency where he was responsible for capital policy, macro and financial analysis, and the OCC’s international operations. He also served as a member of the Basel Committee and the Basel Committee’s Capital Task Force.

Mr. Fiechter came to the OCC in February of 2000 from the World Bank where he was Director of Special Financial Operations (SFO), a department with a focus on countries experiencing major financial distress. Mr. Fiechter also served as Director of the Financial Sector Development Department and Chairman of the Financial Sector Board.

Mr. Fiechter moved to the World Bank from the Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS), the federal agency under the U.S Treasury Department created in 1989 to supervise the thrift industry.

Mr. Fiechter served as Acting Director of OTS from 1992 to 1996, establishing policies that contributed to the successful restructuring and financial recovery of the thrift industry. In this capacity, Mr. Fiechter also served as Director of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Director of the Oversight Board of the Resolution Trust Corporation, Director of the Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation and Chairman of the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council.

Mr. Fiechter began his professional career at the U.S. Treasury Department in 1971 as an international economist.
