Solange Berstein is Director of Research
at the Superintendence of Pension Funds in Chile
(SAFP) and teaches public finance and industrial
organization at the University of Chile. She
previously worked as a senior economist at the
Central Bank of Chile. The research department
that she currently leaders is in charged of
analyzing the performance of the Pension System
in Chile and is permanently evaluating possible
improvements. Her current research at the Superintendence
covers different aspects of the private pension
system, such as investment of pension funds,
benefits and fiscal guarantees, and the competitiveness
of the pension industry. Dr. Berstein received
the M.A. degree from ILADES/Georgetown and the
Ph.D. degree in economics from Boston University.
At Boston University she worked with Laurence
Kotlikoff in a research project in which a sophisticated
financial planning software was used to investigate
individual financial behavior.
