Gerard
Caprio (Ph.D. in Economics, University of
Michigan; A.B., Economics, Williams College)
holds the joint appointment of Director, Financial
Sector Policy and Strategy Department, in the
World Banks Financial Sector Vice Presidency,
and also serves as Manager, Financial Sector
Research, in the Banks Development Research
Group. Before joining the Bank in 1988, he was
Vice President and Head of Global Economics
at JP Morgan, previously holding economist positions
at the Federal Reserve Board and the IMF, as
well as teaching at George Washington University.
Jerry has researched and written extensively
on financial sector policy, financial reform,
and monetary policy implementation, including
Reforming Finance: Historical Implications
for Policy and Financial Reform: Theory
and Experience (both Cambridge University
Press). His current research is on the links
between financial sector regulation and supervision
and the performance of financial institutions,
as well as on financial crises. Much of this
work is published in the new Research Report
Finance for Growth: Policy Choices in a Volatile
World
