Presenter Bios: Gerry Lemcke

Mr. Gerry Lemcke
Swiss Re

Since January 2002, Gerry Lemcke has held the position of Deputy Head of Catastrophe Perils—Armonk Hub, Chief Underwriting Office, of Swiss Re America Holding Corporation. He also serves as a Member of Management. As a member of the catastrophe perils team, he is responsible for tool development in the field of tropical cyclone risk assessment (lead scientist). He also oversees the development in the field of flood and earthquake risk assessment. Mr. Lemcke is involved in capacity management and steering as well as second level underwriting support for the Division America. Mr. Lemcke is also a Member of the American Meterological Society (AMS).

Previously, he served as a Member of Swiss Re's Cat Perils Team in Zurich (1998–2002) . He serves as a member of board of NCCR Climate, one of the biggest climate research projects currently under way in Switzerland. Mr. Lemcke is the official spokesperson for Risk Prediction Initiative in Bermuda, and at the World Institute for Disaster Risk Management. He is the Lead Researcher for Swiss Re's own proprietary tropical cyclone risk assessment tools. From 1996–1998, Mr. Lemcke served as a Research Assistant at EAWAG Switzerland, and was involved in several research projects funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation as well as the EU related to climate research.

Mr. Lemcke holds a PhD from the ETH in Zurich, Switzerland. He has conducted research on paleoclimate in East Anatolia (Turkey), and is specialized in geochemistry of trace elements and aquatic physics. Mr. Lemcke earned his Master of Science at the University of Goettingen, Germany.
