Mr. Perez is an economist with specialization in insurance and risk management, and 20 years' experience in the insurance field, most of which have been devoted to research. At present, Mr. Perez serves as Director of Insurance Supervision at the Superintendencia Bancaria in Colombia. He is responsible for projects such as the new solvency margin calculation, new technical reserves regime and the implementation of a new supervision approach based on risk assessment. He has also held other senior positions at the Superintendencia Bancaria in the field of insurance supervision. Previously, Mr. Perez served as Technical Manager of the Insurance Division at the Caja Agraria; Technical Division Director at the Compania Mundial de Seguros; and as an Underwriting Analyst in the International Department of March and McLennan. He has also taught at the Universidad Externado de Colombia and at the Universidad de la Sabana.

Mr. Perez holds an undergraduate degree from Universidad Central, Bogotá, Colombia and a Master of Science in Insurance and Risk Management from the City University Business School in London, England.

He has also been involved in developing course materials and distance learning training at the World Bank.
