Asli Demirguc-Kunt has served as Lead Economist for Development Economics at the World Bank since 1989. Her areas of expertise include international finance; financial institutions; financial markets and corporate finance. She holds awards from the Journal of Banking and Finance and from the Southern Finance Association. Previous to her work at the Bank, Asli served as a Visiting Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, and as an Instructor at Ohio State University, where she earned her Ph.D. in Economics.
