Dr.
Rouben Indjikian is the Head of E-Finance and Senior
Economic Affairs Officer at the Electronic Commerce
Branch in United Nations Conference on Trade and Development
(UNCTAD) in Geneva. He joined UNCTAD in 1982. His
current duties in UNCTAD include research, policy
recommendations and technical assistance to governments
and other entities in the area of e-commerce and e-finance.
He is one of the leading authors of the annual UNCTAD
E-Commerce and Development Report, the main UN publication
on this topical subject. Since 1999 he has also prepared
numerous UNCTAD and other publications on e-commerce
and development. With the support of funds from the
UN 'Development Account' he organised an UNCTAD Expert
Meeting and other regional events on e-finance and
development.
His
previous papers on development and transition economics
covered such issues as price and trade liberalization,
monetary and fiscal policies in the context of macroeconomic
stabilization, institution building especially in
the financial sector, privatization, foreign trade
and payments arrangements and external finance. He
was one of the 1990 award winners in a prestigious
annual AMEX Bank Review Essay Competition in International
Economics and Financial Markets in London. His prize
winning essay has been devoted to the issues of currency
convertibility and payments arrangements in a transition
economy He is a regular speaker at many major international
conferences on e-commerce, e-finance as well as transition
economy issues.
