markets and financial sector development. Currently
his research focuses on alternative approaches to

the public sector, Dr. Leeds spent more than ten years
as a senior staff member at the International Finance
Corporation, the World Bank affiliate that does debt
and equity financing of private sector projects throughout
the developing world. He has worked in more than 80
countries in Latin America, Asia, Eastern Europe and
the former Soviet Union, and Africa. His international
career began 30 years ago in Brazil, where he served
for two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer.
Dr.
Leeds always maintained close ties to the academic
community. He spent two years at the Kennedy School
of Government at Harvard University, teaching and
heading a research project on privatization in developing
countries. He also has taught at the Wharton School
of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, and
has guest lectured at numerous universities around
the world. He has authored more than twenty journal
articles and contributed chapters on economic development
and international finance for several books. He also

programs, including CNN, Bloomberg News, CBS News,
and National Public Radio. Dr. Leeds is a member of
