Session Five Module: Local Economic Development (Part One)
Dear Participants, In the next two days, you will expand your knowledge on Local Economic Development (LED). This may be a new concept for some of you. However, most of you will find that you are familiar with several LED programs, such as livelihood programs, incentive programs, business services programs, market building programs, etc. Often, however, these programs are conceptualized and then implemented in an ad-hoc way without a comprehension of the strategic direction of the local economy. The LED Strategy Process, which is the focus of this session, aims at elaborating how cities can use economic strategic planning to stimulate the local economy. Because the focus of this module is a strategic approach to LED, you will use that you learnt in the City Strategic Planning Module of this Course. Download
the comments of the Module Resource Person on the previous exercise. You should
download comments on all the other participating nodes as well.
Your facilitator(s) will help you in this task.
Study
the comments and discuss them as a group. See what the Module Resource Person has said about your group’s
completed exercises. Also
see what groups in other city nodes have done and the Resource
Person’s comments. A.
