Regional Conference on National Poverty Reduction Strategies: East Asia and the Pacific

Hanoi, Vietnam
December 4-6, 2001

A regional conference on National Poverty Reduction Strategies for low income countries from the East Asia and Pacific Region was convened jointly by the Asian Development Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the United Nations Development Programme, and the World Bank.

The Forum had three objectives:

  1. to review and exchange experience on the development of poverty reduction strategies in East Asia;
  2. to identify obstacles and challenges countries face in designing and implementing their strategies; and
  3. to derive lessons for the future.

The Forum was also intended to generate inputs for the on-going comprehensive joint staff review of the PRSP approach being carried out by the World Bank and IMF.
