An economist by profession, since March 1996 Lawrence
Egulu has been the Senior Economist of the African
Regional Organization of the International Confederation
of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU-AFRO), based in the Kenyan
capital of Nairobi. His responsibilities cover the
fields of economic and social policy. Lawrence Egulu
carries out activities that are geared towards enhancing
the capacity of trade unionists in order for them
to negociate effectively for their economic and social
rights, but also ensure that they are responsible
citizens and part of the development of their respective
countries. He has been the link person between the
ICFTU-AFRO and the international financing agencies
as well as the UN and its specialised agencies. Prior
to his present appointment he served as Cp-ordinator,
East African Trade Union Council (EATUC), lecturer
of Economics and Project Planning and Management at
Makerere University, Director of Research and Economics
at the National Organization of Trade Unions - Uganda,
and Economist with the Ministry of Finance and Economic
Planning - Uganda.
