Hong Tan is Lead Economist with the Human Development
Division of the World Bank Institute. Prior to joining
the Institute, he was Principal Economist in the Private
Sector Development of the World Bank where he led
research and economic sector work on the business
environment, and provided technical assistance to
developing country governments. Prior to joining the
World Bank, he was a Senior Economist with the RAND
Corporation, and served on several national commissions
on education and training in the U.S. and in Australia.
He received his Ph.D. in economics from Yale University
where he specialized in labor economics, development
and the Japanese economy.
