Joann Vanek is the Co-Director of the Statistics Program
of the global network, Women in Informal Employment:
Globalizing and Organizing (WIEGO). She recently retired
from the United Nations Statistics Division where
she was Chief of Social Statistics. At the United
Nations she developed and coordinated the preparation
of three issues of the report "The World's Women:
Trends and Statistics". Ms. Vanek has a Ph.D.
in sociology from the University of Michigan.
