Margareth
Grosh has worked on different aspects of poverty and/or
safety net programs for the World Bank since 1986.
She is presently the Lead Specialist for Safety Nets
in the Social Protection Network anchor. She holds
the dubious distinction of having been the first World
Bank staff member to work on a social fund in October
of 1986. She wrote a comparative study of targeting
mechanism in Latin american programs in 1994. She
then led the LSMS survey team in the research department
for 6 years, fostering the collection and analysis
of survey data to be used in formating social policy
(including safety nets programs). Her main regional
experience is Latin American, with brief forays into
the FSU. Her last operational missions were in Zimbabwe
and Indonesia. She trained as an economist, with a
Ph.D. in economics from Cornell University in 1986.
