Mr.
Ouerghi is a Senior Human Development Economist leading
the social protection program of the World Bank Institute.
A former fellow researcher in the French Atomic Energy
Agency, he started his career at the World Bank with
long term field assignments as manager for poverty
and social protection related programs in South Asia,
Africa and the Middle East. Mr. Ouerghi is one of
the pioneers in the design, implementation and analysis
of household surveys used to inform policy makers
in Tunisia (1983), in Yemen (1987), Zambia (1989)
and Pakistan (1991-93). Mr. Ouerghi then joined the
Bank's Operations working for 3 years on West Africa
before joining the World Bank Institute in 1996. He
received his Ph.D. in production economics jointly
from the Institut National des Sciences et Techniques
Nucleaires and Paris IV-Dauphine in 1986.
