Jim
Smith is a Lead econoist working in Poverty Reduction
and Economic Management in the Africa Region. He has
degrees from Carleton University, Canada, and the
London School of Economics. In the past 20 years at
the World Bank, Jim Smith has served in a range of
capacities, accross Asia and Africa; including: as
Deputy Resident Representative in Nepal and Malawi;
managing povery, health, agricultural, infrastructure
and education work in South Asia and Africa. Much
of his work has been focused on the questions of public
expenditure and poverty, with substantial work on
the development of safety net strategies for the poor,
especially in low-income countries.
