| ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
This
workshop and the facilitators guide were developed by
Natoma, a consultant in learning and development, in
collaboration with Futureworks, Inc., specialists in
telecenter development and operations.
The developers would like to thank the many people around
the world who took time to respond to requests for information
about their telecenters, their schools, or their research.
Special thanks go to: Maria Cristina Costa, World Links
in Paraguay; Jingo Fair, Felix Masaraneyi, and Ted Sells,
World Links in Zimbabwe; to Scott Robinson of the Universidad
Metropolitana of Mexico City; and to Polly Gaster, Eduardo
Mondlane University Informatics Center, Maputo, Mozambique.
The
coordinators, head teachers, and resource teachers who
participated in the February, 2001, field test in Harare,
Zimbabwe, contributed a great deal of time and energy
toward finalizing the design of the workshop. We hope
that every workshop achieves their level of interaction
and energy. Special thanks to Eliade Gudze, World Links
coordinator, Zimbabwe; Ted Sells of the Ministry of
Education of Zimbabwe, and World Links associate; to
the entire ZOIC organization; and to the workshop rapporteurs,
Reyhana Masters-Smith and Leonissah Munjoma.
The
World Links Organization and its World Bank counterpart,
World Links for Development, have been cooperative throughout
the process, and understanding of the difficulties involved
in coordinating research across regions and disciplines.
Sam Carlson, director of the World Links Organization,
and Anthony Bloome, regional coordinator for Africa,
have consistently held to a vision of schools linked
with communities to achieve sustainable advances in
ICT implementation and learning.
The workshop would have been radically different, and
much less effective, without the foundation of knowledge
and experience laid down by Richard Fuchs, formerly
president of Futureworks, Inc., now with the International
Development Research Center.
