Dr. James Murombedzi is a Program Officer in the Community and Resource Development Program of the Ford Foundation in South Africa. His current work focuses on supporting land reform and community based natural resources management initiatives in the Southern African region.
Prior to his appointment to the Ford Foundation in 1997, Dr. Murombedzi was a lecturer in the Centre for Applied Social Sciences at the University of Zimbabwe. During this time, Dr. Murombedzi carried out policy research into the micro-political dynamics of natural resources management in communal tenure regimes of Southern Africa, focusing specifically on the devolution of wildlife management in the CAMPFIRE, ADMADE, LIRDP and LIFE Programs. Dr Murombedzi's professional and research interests include land and natural resource tenure, advocacy for policy and legislative development in support of CBNRM, the development of community capacities to manage natural resources, the integration of CBNRM in land use planning, CBNRM as a vehicle for rural development, and regional networking on CBNRM.
