The Education program at the World Bank Institute is sponsoring a series of videoconferences on topics related to ICT and education based on the lessons learned from the program's five-year pilot project.

The topics explored in the year-long Global Dialogues series will be drawn from the experiences of the World Bank Institute's World Links for Development (WorLD) program and its partner organizations since 1997 in implementing innovative ICT in education projects around the world.

Each ICT & Education Global Dialogue videoconference will focus on a specific topic of interest to Policymakers and practivtioners. These videoconferences are being organized in coordination with the Global Distance Learning Network (GDLN).

The idea is to share practical information on successes, failures and challenges related to the implementation of ICT in Education projects in developing countries based on what has actually been attempted and accomplished "in-the-field", and the lessons learned from these activities.

Each videoconference follows a similar model:

  • A short (2-10 page) case study or paper is distributed prior to each videoconference.
  • The authors of this case study and/or participants in the project examined give a short presentation.
  • A moderator then helps direct the follow-up discussion.

The emphasis in this videoconference series is on "dialogue" -- i.e the exchange of information and ideas, not on presentation of the original case study or paper.

A typical videoconference lasts 2-3 hours, and includes participants from 3-4 different distance learning sites around the world.
