International Organizacion for Migration
Grant Purpose:

The overall objective of the project was to support reinsertion activities for the social and economic
integration of 1,050 Falintil soldiers and their dependents into civilian society.
Grant Activities:

The program assisted ex-Falintil families in building sustainable livelihoods through:

(1) a transitional safety net;
(2) support to self-employment.

The transitional safety net was used for a package of inputs for productive purposes. Support to self-employment included assistance to different activities, such as vocational training, informal sector apprenticeships, education, employment referral, micro-projects, and agricultural support. Particular emphasis was placed on information and counseling services using local outreach staff.

As a prerequisite to elaborating targeted support measures, a socioeconomic survey was carried out among Falintil fighters to identify their demographic characteristics, health and education status, perceived needs and aspirations. The results of this survey established the basis for further delineating reintegration options as well as the project's management information system.
