Grant Purpose:

The project aimed at reintegrating a total of 650 Anjouanese ex-militias and risk-category youth into the Anjounese economy and preventing renewed and aggravated conflict in Anjouan. Its objectives included:

(1) Provision of professional training for 600 young ex-militias and young Anjouanese;
(2) Upgrading of vocational training facilities in Anjouan;
(3) Strengthening the Adapted Civil Service to provide training in community development for peace and development for young volunteers.
Grant Activities:

The components of the project included social and professional re-integration of young Anjouanese militias. The target group received training, with the objective of improving their access to work and income generating activities.

Component 1: Vocational training for young Anjouanese and ex-militias, to provide them with professional training and enhance their reinsertion in society.

Component 2: Upgrades to the existing vocational training facilities and development of new ones.

Component 3: Establishment of "committees for peace and development", organizing young volunteers within these committees, and support to the activities of the committees.
