Grant Purpose:

The purpose of the grant was to enable Rwandan youth and community groups to use information and communication technologies (ICTs) for improved education, enhanced inter-ethnic communication and downstream economic opportunities, thereby contributing to post-conflict development efforts.

More specifically, the objectives of the proposal included:

(1) Establishing Internet Learning Centers (ILCs) in 20 Rwanda communities, open to both schools and community groups;

(2) Providing training in the use of ICTs to improve educational outcomes and promote local economic and social development;

(3) Providing opportunities for further study, professional growth and conflict prevention in Rwanda by promoting access and use of information and communication, to generate and strengthen economic opportunities.
Grant Activities:

Component 1: Capacity Building: Establishment of Internet Learning Centers in several communities in Rwanda

Component 2: Training: Provision of training to students, teachers, and interested community members in the use of information and communication technologies

Component 3: Information Sharing and Dissemination: Facilitating access to needed information, and knowledge sharing by local communities for their economic and social development
