Grant Purpose:
The project aimed to support the Community-Based Mental Health Services in Travnik Canton by financing an initiative to facilitate the development of a culturally appropriate mental health program within the primary health care system in Travnik Canton. The intended beneficiaries of the project were primary care providers, the primary health care system, and thousands of psychologically and physically traumatized patients.

Grant Activities:
Activities under the grant included:
(1) Preparing a training evaluation of trainees;
(2) Support for increased use of new skills by Primary Care Physicians (PCPs)/psychiatrists in all content areas, surveyed during training and every year thereafter, for the duration of the project; (3) Assistance in collaboration of psychiatrist and PCPs;
(4) Support for increased utilization of Community-Based Rehabilitations (CBRs), psychiatrists, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), vocational counselors and social workers by PCPs;
(5) On-site supervision by the Recipient, international staff and local psychiatrists;
(6) Support for introduction of cumculurn into Bosnia and Herzegovina's Ministry of Health for Continuous Medical Education (CME) program, and a new Family Medicine (FM) curriculum;
(7) A qualitative assessment of increased use of CBRs by PCPs;
(8) A qualitative assessment of increased use of NGOs, social services, job counseling and vocational rehabilitation services by PCPs;
(9) An independent project evaluation.
